Peer Christensen

Peer Christensen

Peer Christensen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and moved to Canada in 1959 as a child. A primarily self-taught artist, Christensen has now been working in the medium of oil paint for over 30 years.

The classical technique of building up successive opaque and transparent oil paint layers yields the luminosity that characterizes Christensen’s style. He has applied the technique to a variety of subject matter that include commonplace objects, urban and industrial landscapes, floral studies, still lives and atmospheric night scenes.

Christensen studied Classical Oil Painting with artist Anthony Thorn and completed a course in Paper Conservation, both through the University of Victoria BC. He has participated in a number of exhibitions across Ontario, and his work is in a variety of public and private collections. In 2018, Christensen became an elected member of the Ontario Society of Artists. He is currently based in Peterborough where he maintains an active studio practice.
