Maureen O'Connor

Maureen O'Connor

Maureen O’Connor’s interest in cultural evidence is expressed through photographing industrial architecture and domestic landscape as transformative spaces.

Developing her work with transitional spaces, O’Connor has embarked on a new series exploring the idea of "Threshold". Introducing animals as representational figures or archetypes, she explores divergent narratives in our experience of time and memory. Her large-scale landscapes are dramatic, transitory narratives commenting on beauty and fragility where a new dialogue can emerge. As a life-long animal lover, O'Connor's images in the Threshold series are produced with the cooperation of local animal handlers and animal sanctuaries. The animals are brought to the interior locations and photographed onsite in the abandoned dwellings seen in her works.

Maureen O’Connor is a fine art photographer committed to the traditional photographic process using film and chemistry-based printing. She is a Toronto based artist who graduated from OCAD University and has been the recipient of numerous recognitions including a grant from the Canada Council of the Arts and The Best Photography Award at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. Her work is held in private collections across Canada.
