Louise Richardson

Louise Richardson

Louise Richardson was born and raised in Canada and currently lives in Southern Ontario. After specializing in art studio and history at university, she spent many years as a teacher of visual arts in secondary schools. Her most recent works have been informed by the restrictions imposed over the past year through the global pandemic. In her own words:

"...when so much of normal activity has been restricted, I have been walking through the woods on the many trails and paths available in the area where we live. I have been inspired by the grace, the strength and the endurance of the trees in the woods and I have tried to emulate these qualities in my life these past trying months. The trees have inspired my art-making. In my efforts to capture the characteristics of the trees that inspire, I have been pushed to experiment not only with traditional oil paints and brushes but also with oil pigment sticks  which demand a more spontaneous approach to the application of oil on canvas. The pictures displayed here, however different they may appear from one another in technique, are all an effort to communicate the beauty and dignity and solace that the trees offer on a walk through the woods."

Richardson’s paintings can be found in collections in Canada and the US.
